CHANGE OF HEALTH: Firefighter Saves Tot Chocking On Coin
This footage was filmed and produced 10 March 2024.
The video shows the moment two-year-old child was rescued by firefighters in Luziania, Goias in Brazil, on Sunday. The child was choking on a R$0.25 cent coin.
This is the miracle moment a firefighter rescues a two-year-old child choking to death on a coin. The tot's family rushed the youngster to their local fire station in Luzania, Goias State, Brazil, on 10th March where firefighters are trained in advanced first aid.
Tense CCTV footage shows the panicked family arrive at the gates and sprint out of the car with the toddler in their arms.
As an officer takes the tot he holds him face down and begins performing the Heimlich manoeuvre on him.
While the youngster gasps for air and reaches out to their mum, the officer, named only as Sergeant Peixoto, continues with the procedure until the coin drops out.
The family members are so relieved they seem to collapse, squatting on the floor in exhaustion as the clip ends.
The family later told local media that the child had found the coin on top of a piece of furniture and swallowed it without warning.
Goias State Military Fire Brigade Battalion said in a statement obtained by Newsflash on 11th March: "On the afternoon of Sunday, the 10th, the parents and grandmother of a child rushed to the Fire Department in Luziania seeking help for a two-year-old child who had swallowed a coin of 25 cents.
"They arrived honking from afar and, as they approached the gate, desperate, they handed the child into the hands of Sgt Peixoto."
Sergeant Peixoto explained: "I noticed that the child was having a lot of difficulty breathing and was making a strange sound."
He added: "It was a moving moment because everyone there was desperate and, upon seeing the child breathing again, they were very relieved and thanked me very much."
The statement went on: "Immediately, the Sergeant began to tap the child several times without success, at which point he began the Heimlich manoeuvre.
"After the fifth manoeuvre, the coin was expelled to everyone's relief.
"The rescue team assessed that the child was out of risk and offered to take him to medical care.
"However, the grandmother and parents thanked him and refused transport, preferring to take him home, as he was breathing normally."
