This footage was filmed and produced 11 February 2024.

An alleged robber wearing a face mask and holding an umbrella demands money from the cashier in a store in Trier, Germany. The police in Rhineland-Palatinate are now searching for the unknown man using photos and video.

This is the moment a thief slips up as he flees after robbing a betting shop while hiding his face from the camera using an umbrella.
The incident took place in Trier, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, on Sunday, 11th February, at 9:49 pm.

The video shows the man entering the betting shop while hiding his face from the camera and threatening a member of staff behind the counter with a knife.

The man can be seen banging the knife on the counter until the member of staff hands him cash and he then runs away.
But as he reaches the door he slips and falls flat on his back as the footage ends.

The police are currently looking for the robber, telling local media: "The robber doesn't seem professional, despite his masquerade, the surveillance cameras capture him. Nevertheless, he is successful.
“The employee handed him the money in a light, transparent wallet with a red zipper. The unknown person then left the branch with loot in the mid-four-figure range.”
Newsflash obtained a statement from the Trier Criminal Investigation Department on 6th March saying: "After the robbery of a Tipico branch on Trier's Castelforte Street on Sunday, February 11th (our press release from February 12th, 2024, 10:56 a.m.), the police are now looking for clues using recordings from a surveillance camera.
"The previously unknown man entered the branch through the main entrance at around 9:49 p.m. with an umbrella open, threatened the employee present with a knife and demanded that they hand over cash. The employee then handed him the money in a light, transparent wallet with a red zipper. The unknown man then left the branch with a mid-four-figure amount of loot.
"Description of the person: The perpetrator is approx. 1.80 m tall, wore grey trousers, a black hoodie with the hood pulled over his head, black shoes and gloves. He also wore a light-coloured FFP2 mask and carried an open blue umbrella with a circular white emblem. The perpetrator spoke German with an unknown accent."
The police asked people who may recognise the suspect to contact them.
