Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies successfully apprehended a suspect wanted in connection to a violent robbery of a jewelry store in Houston, seizing approximately $79,000 in cash and gold jewelry taken from the heist valued at over $1 million. The suspect, identified as Asdrubal Rodriguez, confessed to committing the robbery as well as assaulting the victims with a pistol and pepper spray during the incident.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday evening when deputies responded to a tip from the Real Time Crime Center indicating that the Maryland-tagged Black Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Rodriguez was involved in the robbery. Deputies located the vehicle in a parking lot in Palm Coast and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, detaining Rodriguez and his passenger, Adrian Brook, without incident.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Rodriguez did not possess a driver's license in the United States or from his home country of Cuba. He was arrested for Driving without a License and is currently being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without bond. Brook, who has no connection to the robbery, was released from the scene with no charges.

Sheriff Rick Staly commended his deputies, the Real Time Crime Center, and the Communications Center for their efforts in bringing Rodriguez to justice. He also mentioned that detectives from Flagler County are working closely with Houston Police Department detectives to further investigate Rodriguez's involvement in the jewelry store heist.

ICE has been contacted regarding both men, and an ICE Detainer was obtained for Rodriguez. The Houston Police Department has obtained a warrant for Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, which is currently in the process of being served on Rodriguez.

"This arrest serves as a reminder that criminals will be caught regardless of where they try to hide," stated Sheriff Staly. "Our partnership with law enforcement agencies across the country ensures that justice will prevail. I am proud of the dedication and hard work of our deputies and detectives in solving this case."
