In an exciting development at the Oregon Zoo, orphaned bear cubs Timber and Thorn are stepping out into the spotlight at their Black Bear Ridge habitat. Since arriving in December, the young cubs have been growing in size and confidence, and are now venturing out to play nearly every day.

As orphans who were found wandering separately in Alaska, Timber and Thorn were rescued by state wildlife officials and received care at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage before making their way to Portland. Named after their forest home and Portland's major league soccer teams, the cubs are now getting acquainted with their new surroundings and showing off their playful personalities.

While the cubs have been bonding and growing together, they will eventually have the opportunity to meet the zoo's adult black bears, Cubby and Dale. For now, visitors can enjoy watching Timber and Thorn as they continue to develop their skills and grow into confident young bears.
