Hundreds of women wielding sticks bashed men hiding under cushions during the Lathmar Holi festivities in Barsana, Uttar Pradesh.

The beating of sticks is meant to represent when the Hindu deity Lord Krishna visited the area to shower Radha, the goddess of love, with colours.

Hundreds of Indian men and women gathered on Monday on the streets of Barsana town in Mathura in the state of Uttar Pradesh to celebrate the Lathmar Holi festival.

During the Hindu festival, which means "Holi of sticks", women are seen as they beat men with sticks. The men protect themselves by carrying leather shields.The colorful festival is mostly celebrated by the people of Barsana and Nandgaon villages.Many tourists are also attracted to the town to enjoy the ‘Lathmar Holi' festival.

According to the reports, the festival is known for its vibrant colors and welcoming the arrival of spring after winter.

The tradition dates back to Lord Krishna’s times when he had gone to meet a friend called Radha in her village, playfully teased her friends.

The high sequrity has arrangment by local police administration .The gathering was much for out of control for crowds.
