A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested for smuggling illegal aliens, including a toddler, after a harrowing high-speed pursuit in Webb County, Texas this week, authorities have reported.

The incident began on Wednesday when Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers attempted to pull over a suspicious sedan in a residential neighborhood near the Mexican border. The driver of the vehicle then began taking evasive actions, leading to a dramatic chase.

Footage released by TxDPS shows the sedan racing down US-83, weaving through traffic and even driving on the shoulder to evade police. The driver made risky moves, including driving through an intersection against oncoming traffic, causing other motorists to slam on their brakes.

The suspect eventually entered another neighborhood and abandoned the moving vehicle with his passengers, including four illegal aliens from Mexico, still inside. Among the passengers was a 3-year-old child, whose relationship to the others in the car remains unclear.

The driver, identified as Gustavo Omar Arizpe Jr., a resident of Laredo, was apprehended after a brief foot chase. Arizpe has been charged with evading arrest and smuggling of persons, and the four illegal aliens have been turned over to Border Patrol.
