STORYLINE:

At the invitation of the China Education Association for International Exchange, a group of 24 students from the U.S. state of Washington arrived in China on Sunday for a trip.

Ten of them are from Lincoln High School and the other 14 are from Steilacoom High School.

On Monday, they visited Tsinghua University High School.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): KARL PAUL HOSETH, Principal of Lincoln High School
"This trip has been just amazing to see all the different things that are happening at this school. So I think it was really inspiring just to see the innovative minds at work with the students here.
I think what we believe and have thought from the start is that when we can get our young people together, they start figuring out what their commonalities are, and it really can build bridges across, you know, our two countries. And there's been a long history between Lincoln High School and China, but it really happens with the kids and the students being the ones that can get to know each other and hopefully continue some of these relationships after we leave."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ALLI PEARL MCGHINNIS, Steilacoom High School student
"I think from talking with all of the students, we are very similar in a lot of ways. I thought we would be very different. But we have a lot of the same interests from talking with Andrew over here. And we're very similar."

The visit will take them to Beijing, Hubei, and Guangdong before they return to the U.S. on March 27.
