Worshipers injured when temple railing collapse during Hindu festival celebrations
More than 20 worshipers have sustained fractures following a railing collapse at a temple during Hindu festival celebrations in India.
Footage from the scene shows a massive stampede of devotees, who had been waiting for hours for the doors of the Radha Rani temple in Barsana, in Uttar Pradesh state, to open on Sunday evening, March 17.
People were seen being dragged by the sheer force of the crowd, as others desperately attempted to rescue those trapped in the mass.
According to Indian media, at least 22 people were injured when the railing of the temple's staircase suddenly broke at around 1:15 pm.
Dr Manjoh Vashishtha fromBarsana's Community Health Centre said they were taken to the centre following the incident.
Most of them had reportedly suffered fractures. The condition of two individuals is reported to be critical, according to Indian media.
District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar Singh stated that immediate medical treatment was provided to the injured devotees.
Meanwhile, police said they were sent to the temple and the crowd was subsequently controlled.
The celebration was organised ahead of the Holi Hindu Festival celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love, and Spring.
It honours the eternal and divine love of the deities Radha and Krishna and symbolises the triumph of good over evil.
The festival also marks the arrival of spring in India, the end of winter, and the blossoming of love.
