A power bank caught fire during a bus reinjuring a child and causing panic among the passengers.

Surveillance camera footage recorded on a bus travelling from Jiande to Hangzhou in the eastern province of Zhejiang, China, showed the loaded bus moving on the road at around 5:43 pm on March 10.

However, just seconds later the clip captured how the charger of an individual seated in the rear seats suddenly ignited, triggering panic among the rest of the travellers.

After the explosion, one individual can be heard shouting to the driver: 'Pull over and stop.'

The driver, identified as Mr Jiang, said that there were more than 20 passengers, among which many children, on the bus at the time.

He said: 'I was driving at the time and I heard the passengers say there was a fire, so I quickly stopped the vehicle in the emergency lane.

'Because the car was parked in the emergency lane of the motorway, considering the safety of the passengers and having nothing else to do, didn't stop too long and drove on quickly.'

Mr Jiang explained how the passenger's charger was placed in their backpack when the blast happened.

He added: 'It only took a few seconds, and the fire was very big.

'Fortunately, other passengers noticed the fire and stepped on the backpack with their feet, and it was quickly extinguished. When I stopped the bus, there was only smoke.'

Mr Jiang also explained that a child who was sitting close to the scene suffered a burn injury to the head in the incident.

He said: 'The passenger did not use the power bank at the time of the incident. He just put it in his backpack. There was a sound first, and the flames started within a few seconds.

'The other passengers didn't blame them at the time. After all, everyone now carries power banks with them, but I was still very scared when I thought about it afterwards.

'The only good thing is that the power bank was not placed in the luggage compartment. The luggage compartment is closed.

'Fortunately, the backpack was not placed on the side of the curtain, otherwise, it might have ignited the curtain.'
