In a daring rescue mission, the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) successfully saved a man who had fallen over a steep cliff while attempting to rescue his bird in O’Neill Park on March 18.

The incident occurred shortly before 4:00 PM when the man found himself about 12 feet down with a 40-foot vertical drop below. Thanks to quick-thinking bystanders who called 911, OCFA firefighters, including Helicopter 2, were able to respond promptly to the scene.

After assessing the situation, it was decided that the quickest and safest way to rescue the man was to lower a rescuer from the helicopter to perform a pick. Despite the challenging terrain, the rescuer was able to reach the man and successfully bring him to safety. Remarkably, the man's beloved bird was also rescued and found tucked under his shirt.
