This is the shocking moment a speeding pickup truck crashed into a house in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the vehicle racing across the road amid heavy rainfall before hurtling into a house next to the Ping river in Chiang Mai province on March 19.

The collision damaged two motorbikes, marble benches, a shrine, potted plants, and the wall of the home. The pickup had broken through the concrete and smashed into the residents' living room.

Homeowner Suthida Kantha said her family had just eaten dinner and were going to bed when they heard the crash.

She said: 'We rushed downstairs and saw the pickup truck lodged in the wall of our home. It's a miracle none of my family were injured. If we had still been downstairs, the outcome could have been different.'

She added that the allegedly drunk male driver climbed out of the pickup truck while the family helped his female passenger out of her seat.

As they waited for police to arrive, the driver assured Suthida that he had 'first-class' insurance and would compensate her for the damage. He claimed the pickup belonged to his employer and he was only renting it.

Suthida said: ‘While I speaking with the police and the insurance representative, the driver disappeared. His friend arrived to handle the matter.

'I hope he keeps his word and pays for the damage. The crashed truck is still inside my house. A thorough damage assessment may be necessary because I'm unsure if the house could collapse. I urge officials to be fair and handle the case with honesty.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
