SOUNDBITE (English): ONG TEE KEAT, Former Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of the Malaysian Parliament
"I would call the Chinese democracy a unique model that involves the participation of the people, aspiration of the people. I'm glad to see that the Chinese governance has attached great significance to the monitoring of the result. It is also result oriented. In fact, the tremendous changes brought about by the Chinese governance to the people, to cite the most common example, is the poverty alleviation, where more than 800 million people have been lifted out of poverty 10 years ahead of the United Nations 2030 SDG Sustainable Development Goals target. That by itself is a very clear example."
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): ONG TEE KEAT, Former Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of the Malaysian Parliament
"I think the most important aspect of Chinese democracy is that it shuns away from formalism. It genuinely seeks to align with the needs of the people and strives to meet those needs. What's even more commendable is its emphasis on feedback from the public."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Beijing.
