Adorable armadillos played with Easter eggs at a zoo in Austria.

Footage shows the animals crawling around a makeshift nest arranged by a Vienna Zoo worker, which contains a colourful array of painted eggs.

According to Zoo director Stephan Hering Hagenbeck, armadillos typically feast on insects as their main source of nutrition.

However, in addition to their insect-based diet, the armadillos at the park also enjoy a variety of treats such as fruits, vegetables, cat food, and even the occasional hard-boiled egg.

Known for their unique defence mechanism of rolling up into a protective ball when threatened, these armadillos resemble Easter eggs when in their defensive posture.

The zoo officer said the younger visitors to the Tiergarten are also getting into the holiday spirit. Starting on March 25, the Tiergarten ORANGerie will host its annual Easter workshop, where children can unleash their creativity by painting and decorating Easter cards, crafting animal-themed decorations, and building Easter crafts for their rooms.

The workshop, led by dedicated volunteers, will run until Thursday and is open to all children visiting the park during this time.

The Easter program at Tiergarten Schonbrunn offers a fun and engaging way for children to celebrate the holiday while connecting with nature and wildlife.

No registration is required, so families can simply enjoy the activities as part of their visit to the park.
