As Easter approaches, the residents of Vienna Zoo are not the only ones getting in on the festive spirit – even the armadillos are joining in on the fun. In a special Easter surprise, an armadillo was treated to a colorful array of eggs, setting the stage for a season of celebration at the wildlife park.

According to Zoo director Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck, armadillos typically feast on insects as their main source of nutrition. However, in addition to their insect-based diet, the armadillos at the park also enjoy a variety of treats such as fruits, vegetables, cat food, and even the occasional hard-boiled egg. Known for their unique defense mechanism of rolling up into a protective ball when threatened, these armadillos bear a striking resemblance to Easter eggs when in their defensive posture.
