An extremely rare two-headed kitten has been born to a shocked pet owner who has been taking care of it after its mother abandoned it.

Footage shows the snow white-coloured moggy sprawled on a blanket to rest days after it was born in Anhui, China, on March 17.

Its head had two mouth holes, both syringe-fed with milk, and two noses, although it only had one set of ears and eyes.

Pet owner Yang said the fully white two-headed feline was from a litter of seven kittens. She added it miraculously survived despite having a health condition.

Yang said the cat's mum had neglected the bizarre offspring, so she took special care of it.

She said she fed it through a syringe, with the kitten 'eating and drinking like its other siblings.'

Yang added that because its two heads are heavy, the neck could not support them, so the kitten kept bobbing its head while moving.

The rare congenital condition that the kitten was born with is scientifically known as polycephaly.

Polycephaly can occur in various species, including humans and animals. Depending on the specific case, each head may have its own brain and function independently or share a single brain.

It can result in the condition known as diprosopus, which is an extremely rare congenital disorder, especially for cats. In this disorder, the animal is born with two faces, or portions of two faces, on a single head.
