Villagers rescued baby foxes that lost their home in a forest fire in Thailand.

Locals discovered the four kits - one male and three female - huddled together in an underground burrow in a burnt forest in Nakhon Ratchasima province on March 21.

With the foxes' mum nowhere in sight, village council chief Chalerm Chimkhonburi decided to take them home fearing they might die in the wilderness.

She and her husband nursed the baby animals with goat's milk as they contacted vets from the Thap Lan National Park for a check-up.

She said: 'The cubs had unusually long necks and heads, so we weren't sure if they were domestic dogs. We called vets from the national park and found out that they were foxes.

'When we found the pups, they could barely open their eyes. We named them Mhok, Mhek, Mhen and Mai.

'I was hoping they would all survive but sadly only Mai, the male cub, lived.'

Mai is set to be transferred to a wildlife breeding centre for proper care. When he is deemed capable enough, he will be released back into the wild.
