The U.S. military has released slickly produced publicity footage of troops dropping humanitarian aid in Gaza as Israel continues its invasion of the Palestinian territory.

Two AMC C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, dispatched from an undisclosed location within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, spearheaded the mission on March 21.

The U.S. previously blocked a ceasefire and blocked increased aid being sent to Gaza, which has been decimated by Israel in retaliation for an attack by Hamas on a Jewish music festival in October last year.

It came as Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week approved an attack on Rafah, where 1.4 million displaced Palestinians have sought shelter.

The situation - which Israel claims is self-defence - has attracted criticism from around the world.

Craig Mokhiber, a director at the United Nations, has resigned over the organization's 'failure' to act against what he called a 'text-book case of genocide' by Israel against Gaza.

Earlier this month it emerged that U.S. officials have approved more than 100 foreign military sales of lethal munitions to Israel since the war began last October.

The haul - worth billions of dollars - includes thousands of precision-guided munitions, small-diameter bombs, bunker busters, small arms and other lethal aid, U.S. officials told members of Congress in a recent classified briefing.

Jeremy Konyndyk, a former senior Biden administration official and current president of Refugees International told the Wall Street Journal the sales were vast.

He said: 'That's an extraordinary number of sales over the course of a pretty short amount of time, which really strongly suggests that the Israeli campaign would not be sustainable without this level of U.S. support.'
