The heroic actions of the Tampa Police Officers on the afternoon of March 16th, 2024, saved the life of 81-year-old Wallace Carter. Carter was trapped inside his home on East Chipco St. as smoke billowed out from a fire that had started on the stove.

Upon receiving the distress call, Officer Travis Wilson led the response team to the scene and quickly realized that specialized breaching tools were required to gain entry due to burglar bars on the doors and windows. With efficiency and determination, the officers forced their way into the building and located Mr. Carter in the kitchen, unconscious on the floor.

Working in tandem, the officers managed to carry Mr. Carter to safety outside the burning home. Tampa Fire Rescue arrived promptly and extinguished the flames, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.

Following his rescue, Mr. Carter was taken to the hospital for treatment and was later discharged in stable condition. Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw commended the quick thinking and bravery displayed by the officers, emphasizing their commitment to public safety and professionalism.
