A bejewelled elephant attending the Arattupuzha Pooram Festival in Arattupuzha near Thrissur ran amok and charged at another elephant brought for the festival. Both elephants charged at each other and ran into the crowd. In the video, the elephant can be seen charging and striking a fellow gentle giant as people ran helter-skelter.

As many as two persons were reportedly injured in the incident as they fell while running to safety. Several vehicles were also damaged in the incident. The elephant squad later restrained the elephants.

Considered the oldest pooram in Kerala, the Arattupuzha Pooram is held at the Sree Sastha Temple in Thrissur for seven days yearly. Devotees believe it to be a ‘conclave’ where all gods and goddesses gather during the annual festival.
