An American Bald Eagle snagging a roadkill rabbit from a road in Boulder Colorado USA
I was driving along a dirt road in Boulder County after a trail run when I suddenly noticed a bald eagle swooping low across the road ahead of me. I slowed down to a stop and pulled out my iPhone just as the eagle did a second pass...and scooped up a roadkill rabbit from the road. Up until this time, I did not realize that eagles were scavengers as well as predators. Just off to the right, you can see a couple of Magpies raising a fuss, as they had also just been feeding on the roadkill before the Eagle chased them off with his first pass. The road here is about 11 feet across, so you can get a sense of how massive this guy's wingspan is.
