A state highway patrol trooper rescued an injured hawk in Ohio.

Footage shows the Canfield Post trooper covering the bird of prey with his jacket before picking it up on Interstate 76 on January 24.

The trooper John Meluch spotted the bird in distress and immediately sprang into action to help.

He safely transported the hawk to the nearby Birds in Flight Sanctuary for treatment. The sanctuary staff are providing the hawk with the necessary care and attention to recover from its injuries.

In a statement released by the police department, the trooper described the experience as 'one of the coolest' of his life.
