The National Police have apprehended 14 individuals and confiscated 10,000 marijuana plants from an alleged drug trafficking group in Catalonia. Additionally, the group faces accusations of animal smuggling after 59 exotic reptiles were found during the raids.

Over 100 agents from various units conducted 11 raids, 10 in the province of Barcelona and one in Girona, with the collaboration of local officers from Granollers, l'Ametlla del Valles, and Llica de Vall (Barcelona), as stated by the National Police in a statement on Saturday.

During the raids, authorities also uncovered two cryptocurrency mining farms, over 100 kilograms of marijuana buds, 16 firearms, 53 high-end watches valued at over 500,000 euros, 16 vehicles, and a recreational boat.

The detainees are facing charges of public health offenses, membership in a criminal group, and electricity theft. Additionally, two of them are accused of smuggling and offenses against wildlife, as they were found in possession of 59 exotic reptiles, 33 of which are endangered and 26 protected species.

The investigation commenced in 2023 after a significant increase in the wealth of one of the suspects, who reportedly earned 7 million euros in three years.

The group, known for using rental properties for their operations and frequently changing locations, resided in heavily monitored luxury homes equipped with surveillance cameras, facial recognition systems, license plate readers, infrared rays, and motion detectors.

The organization was led by four men who managed a network of individuals with different roles within the group.
