Groups of devotees strolled barefoot across red-hot coal during celebrations at a Hindu festival in Surat, Gujarat.

The festival known as Holika Dahan takes place before Holi and features adults walking across a patch of burning hot coal.

The walking over hot coal is meant to symbolise the victory of good over evil, righteousness over wickedness.

To mark the festival of colours, residents of a village in Surat in Gujarat walk on burning coals, giving a new spin to the tradition of Holika Dahan . The ritual is an age old one that has people of the village running on burning coals which takes place every night before Holi. Adults, have a go on the hot coals making sure they don't burn their feet. These visuals are from Bardoli area in Surat where devotees can be seen walking on fire . According to devotees this is century old tradition which they are following today as well
