Five Chinese nationals and a Pakistani driver were killed in a suicide bomb attack in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday.

The group were heading to the Dasu Dam - a massive hydroelectric project in Pakistan - when the explosive-filled car rammed them along a winding mountain road in the Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 26.

Regional police chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur said five Chinese engineers and their local driver died in the attack.

The bodies have been transported to a hospital as authorities collected evidence and searched the area for accomplices.

Bisham Station House Officer (SHO) Bakht Zahir has branded the attack as a 'suicide blast'.

It came less than a week after Pakistani security forces killed eight Baluchistan Liberation Army fighters who had attacked Chinese citizens in the China-bankrolled Gwadar Port Authority complex.
