A woman's new phone plunged through an elevator's shaft after she accidentally dropped it on exit in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in Zhengzhou City in Fujian Province on March 19, shows a woman named Huang taking selfies with her boyfriend in an elevator with her newly purchased phone.

When the elevator reached the 6th floor and her boyfriend attempted to hold her hand to exit together, his arm accidentally knocked the phone out of Huang's hand, causing it to fall to the ground and slide into the gap of the elevator.

Huang explained that her phone, which was brand new, dropped from the 6th floor to the basement level, leaving her distraught at the moment.
However, she managed to retrieve it with the help of elevator maintenance personnel.

The phone suffered damage to its rear screen, slight deformation of the body, and the volume control buttons' wires were severed. She then spent 500 yuan (£55) to repair it.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
