A British retiree was found dead in an apartment in Thailand.

Harold Jhon Milligan, 62, from Larne in Northern Ireland, had been living alone with only his Thai carer Patcharapan Pawaretpongsakorn, 50, visiting him at the Nirun Condo in Pattaya.

He was unreachable for two days before the Thai woman found him lying motionless on the floor.

Police Lieutenant Thanawee Yarangsee of the city's police station said officers were notified of the discovery at 2:30 pm on March 25.

He said: 'We found the British man lying face-down on the ground in an advanced state of decomposition. He was wearing a red tank top and brown shorts. He had no wounds on his body, and there were no signs of assault in the room.'

Police believe he had been dead for around three days before his body was discovered.

The Thai woman Patcharapan said she had to take care of Harold because he had an illness and could not walk on his own. He had to use a wheelchair to move around.

She claimed she had been knocking on his door for two days, but he did not answer. Finally, she went around to the back of the condo unit and saw him on the ground through the room's glass door.

Harold's body has been taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem exam.

Police said they have called the British Embassy to inform his relatives of his passing.
