A pet frog was treated with acupuncture treatment for an injured leg.

The amphibian named Sprite was bought from a Buddhist temple to be released for good luck but owner Sasatorn noticed its wonky hop and took him home.

Determined to help her new pet recover, Sasatorn took Sprite to vets at the Goodwill Animal Hospital in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Footage from the facility shows Sprite lying on a tray with needles and electrodes inserted into its back.

Sprite has now recovered from the injury and was discharged on March 26.

Sasatorn, who is keeping him at her family home, said she paid 50 baht (1.09 GBP) for the frog but had spent around 20,000 baht (436 GBP) treating him.

She said: 'I've spent a lot on Sprite but he's worth it. When I was about to release him, I looked down at his eyes and felt a connection. It was like he was asking me for help.

'I saw that he had an injured leg from where he had been kept with the other frogs and I was worried that he would not be able to swim.'

'I care a lot for the Sprite. He is cute and he gets along with our cats.'

Sasatorn's husband has built a customised aquarium to accommodate the frog.
