"The Francis Scott Key Bridge here in the U.S. city of Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after a large cargo ship collided with it. Officials said the freighter lost power just before it struck the bridge. The FBI's Baltimore field office said that it has no specific and credible information at this time to suggest terrorism."

This collision resulted in individuals and vehicles being plunged into the cold river.

U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday evening that the six people missing after the bridge collapse in U.S. city of Baltimore are presumed dead, and search and rescue efforts have been suspended.

The six individuals, all of whom are road maintenance workers, were reportedly on the bridge repairing potholes when the collapse occurred.

Two people were pulled from the Patapsco River earlier, with one being in critical condition, according to local authorities.

In brief remarks from the White House on Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden said he wants the federal government to pay for the reconstruction of the bridge, which opened to traffic in March 1977.

"We're going to work with our partners in Congress to make sure the state gets the support it needs. It's my intention that federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge, and I expect the Congress to support my effort."

The 2.6-km-long bridge carries Interstate-695 Baltimore Beltway traffic, with about 11.5 million vehicles crossing the bridge each year.
