Corina Yoris, the Venezuelan presidential hopeful for the opposition United Democratic Platform (PUD), said on Monday that the system set up by the government of Nicolas Maduro does not allow her to register, despite the fact that there are only a few hours left before the deadline for registering candidates for the July 28 elections.

Yoris is the candidate chosen to replace Maria Corina Machado, who was disqualified from holding public office in January and is not allowed to compete in the presidential election. Machado posted on her X account on Monday: "If the candidate is chosen by Maduro, it is not an election".
"I think it is important to highlight that we have made every attempt to introduce all the cards and the system is completely closed to be able to enter digitally," Yoris said at a press conference in Caracas on Monday. "We have exhausted all the means at our disposal so that this can be resolved," she added.

SOUNDBITE: Corina Yoris:
"We denounced that my rights as a Venezuelan citizen are being violated by not allowing me access to the system and not being able to register my candidacy for the presidency of Venezuela. At this moment I represent the political unity of the country, which I believe has never been represented in the Venezuelan political forces in a long time, if not ever. It is not only the rights of Corina Yoris that are being violated, but also the rights of the political parties to offer a candidacy that represents this unity, and it is also a denial of the rights of Venezuelans to be, to run and elect the candidate of their choice. It is important to note that we have made every attempt to enter the card data, and the system is completely closed, so that it is impossible to enter digitally. It is not only the name of Corina Yoris, but it is through the cards that the system cannot be accessed, and we have exhausted all the means at our disposal so that this can be resolved. At this moment I am representing the candidacy of an entire political unity that was the wish of the Venezuelan people".
