This passenger train derailed on the morning of Friday 22/03/24 on its way into Grange over Sands. The railway have brought in another set of 3 to the front of the damaged train, so that they can tow the double set away for repair. One of the railway workers told me today (Wed 27/03/24) that the accident had been caused by a 'tamper' train passing through that area on the night before the accident. The 'Tamper' train vibrates the track to settle the sleepers back into the track ballast, but whilst carrying out this task, it burst the drainage pipes that come from the flooded area on the land side of the railway. The pumps continued to pump (as it was raining heavily) but instead of the flow passing through to the beach, it spilled out of the burst pipes under the railway line, washing away its foundations, and causing the sinkhole
