STORYLINE:
Türkiye's financial and cultural hub, Istanbul, will host the 2027 European Games, Ekrem Imamoglu, mayor of the city, announced on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Istanbul, Imamoglu expressed gratitude to the European Olympic Committee (EOC) for promptly reaching its decision.
The mayor mentioned that despite Istanbul's five-time candidacy for the Olympic Games, the city has yet to host a multi-sport event. "We've dedicated considerable effort to achieving this important milestone," he added.
Imamoglu emphasized the necessity of robust coordination and unity for such a significant event and expressed his belief that by working together, Istanbul can surpass all previous records with the 2027 European Games.
The European Games are prestigious international sports competitions featuring athletes from across the European continent. Organized every four years by the EOC, the events showcase top-tier athletic talent.
