In the early hours of March 26 authorities were alerted to a dangerous situation on Route 8 North near exit 36 in Waterbury. Troop L promptly informed Troop A of a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction, careening down the left lane of Route 8 North.

Responding swiftly, a trooper stationed at a nearby highway construction site arrived at the scene. There, the trooper encountered the rogue vehicle, identified as a Toyota Prius, which collided head-on with a State Police cruiser, forcing both vehicles to a halt. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the collision.

The elderly male driver of the Toyota Prius, although unharmed, displayed signs of disorientation. As a precautionary measure, he was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Subsequently, he was cited for violating C.G.S.14-237, driving the wrong way on a divided highway.
