⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠Drifting sand and dust blanketed northeast China's Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces on Thursday, greatly hampering visibility.

The sandstorms impacted several cities including Heilongjiang's capital city Harbin, home to some 10 million people.

In the west of the province, visibility has been severely impaired in Daqing City, declined to less than one kilometer.

At 08:45 Beijing Time, the provincial weather service forecast that in the coming 24 hours, floating sand and dust together with strong winds were expected to sweep urban areas across the region.

It reminded the public to avoid outdoor activities and wear masks to prevent potential hazards to their health.

In Liaoning, except in the coastal regions, most of areas experienced similar weather conditions.

The provincial meteorological observatory there issued a blue alert for strong winds.

It also forecast that the sandy weather will tail off on Thursday night due to the cold air.
