Police authorities in California have released dashcam footage capturing the harrowing moment a domestic violence suspect engaged in a desperate bid to evade law enforcement officers by jumping onto a moving vehicle on a highway.

The video, made public by the Lathrop Police Department, documents the unfolding events as officers responded to a domestic violence incident involving suspect Juan Valdez.

As officers arrived at the scene, Valdez swiftly fled in a vehicle, initiating a high-speed pursuit along the highway.

Amidst the chase, Valdez's vehicle suffered a blown-out tire, forcing him to resort to a daring attempt to carjack another vehicle by leaping onto it.

The intense situation culminated in Valdez being shot by a law enforcement officer, bringing the dangerous pursuit to an end.

Following medical treatment at a hospital, the suspect was subsequently taken into custody and charged with a series of serious felonies, including carjacking, false imprisonment, evasion, and resisting arrest, according to police authorities.
