A routine stop by a DPS Trooper in Kinney County on March 25 uncovered a distressing case of human smuggling, as a mother and her two-year-old child were discovered hidden inside a Chevy Malibu. The discovery led to the arrest of two individuals, both charged with smuggling offenses, while the mother and child, hailing from Mexico, were referred to Border Patrol custody.

The incident unfolded when a DPS Trooper halted a Chevy Malibu in Kinney County, suspecting illicit activity. Upon further inspection, authorities were shocked to find a mother and her young child concealed within the vehicle, indicating a brazen attempt at human trafficking.

The driver, hailing from Florence, Texas, and the passenger, originating from Tyler, Texas, were swiftly apprehended and charged with smuggling of persons, as well as the smuggling of a minor under the age of 18. Meanwhile, the mother and child, both victims of the smuggling operation, were transferred into the care of Border Patrol officials, who will ensure their safety and provide necessary assistance.
