The governor of the Venezuelan state of Zulia, opposition leader Manuel Rosales, was the latest political leader to be nominated as a candidate to face current president Nicolas Maduro in the presidential elections to be held on 28 July in Venezuela, the political party Fuerza Vecinal (FV) said.
Rosales - with whom there are at least 12 candidates in the race - was nominated by FV, despite leading the anti-Chavez party Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT), which belongs to the coalition Plataforma Unitaria Democratica (PUD), which denounced the impossibility of registering the historian Corina Yoris as its candidate.
FV presented the candidacy in a ceremony at the CNE headquarters, without the presence of the governor of Zulia, who has so far made no statement on this nomination. "They did it by automated means," confirmed the president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso.
