Sphere is Spaceship Earth at Disney World park in Orlando, FL, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 20 February 2024.
Every Walt Disney World park has a symbol that identifies it. EPCOT's is a huge geodesic sphere that lights up in colour every night. The name of the sphere is Spaceship Earth.
But did you know that Spaceship Earth is not just a monument at World Celebration, it houses an attraction inside?
The attraction is an immersive journey into the history of communication. Upon entering, you will board a trolley that will take you on a ride through scenarios representing different facets of humanity.
From primitive times with hieroglyphic communication, the invention of the printing press, the end of the US Civil War announced in the newspapers, man's landing on the moon broadcast on television and the modern information age and the internet.
Walt Disney envisioned EPCOT as the park where visitors were invited to imagine what life would be like in the 21st century, and although he did not see his project come to fruition, the Disney team focused on showcasing ideas and technologies the world had never seen before.
"May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire and, above all, instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere," Card Walker, the chairman and CEO who continued Walt Disney's legacy, said at the opening.
