A crane collapsed killing at least six workers in Rayong, southern Thailand, this afternoon.

The labourers, many of them from neighbouring Burma, were building a new steel factory when the equipment gave way at around 4:30pm local time.

Rescue teams arrived the scene and found at least six dead staff and one who was critically injured. They were taken to hospital along with several others who were injured.

Police and local government officials began an investigation into the cause of the disaster.
