The incident took place at Cochin International Airport on March 29.
Visuals showed upon meticulously examining the clothing of a passenger, customs officials made a startling discovery where gold concealed within the seams of the garments. Upon carefully undoing the stitching, the team found a considerable amount of gold in powdered form.
According to reports officers from the Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted a passenger hailing from Kannur upon their arrival from Abu Dhabi at Cochin International Airport. The interception, based on profiling conducted by AIU officials, led to a startling discovery during the examination of the passenger's belongings.
A total of 1316 grams of gold paste, ingeniously concealed between two layers of a vest and underwear, was uncovered and subsequently seized by customs authorities. The unique smuggling method underscores the evolving tactics employed by those engaged in illicit activities.
The native of Kannur, whose identity remains undisclosed, is currently under investigation as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling.
