On March 29th, the first severe convective weather of the year hit Guangzhou, with thunderstorms and lightning strikes captured on multiple cameras hitting the Canton Tower in an instant, turning the black night into daylight, resembling scenes from a science fiction movie.

It is understood that during the architectural design stage, the Canton Tower commissioned the Guangzhou Lightning Protection Facility Testing Institute to assess the risk of lightning strikes and establish a series of lightning protection systems. Lightning rods have been installed at the top of the Canton Tower, which can actively guide lightning and direct it underground. Lightning rods, also known as "lightning rods," are commonly used lightning protection devices. During a lightning strike, a lightning protection system composed of lightning rods, conductive bands, and lightning conductive nets on the roof, along with down conductors made of steel bars or steel structural components in the building's vertical columns, and grounding devices collectively work to protect the building from lightning strikes.

据了解，广州塔在建筑设计阶段已委托广州市防雷设施检测所对闪电雷击风险做了评估，并建立了一系列防雷保护体系。在广州塔塔尖安装了引雷针，能够主动引导雷电，并将引来的雷电带入地下。引雷针又称“接闪杆”，是一种常用的避雷装置。雷电发生时，包括接闪杆、接闪带和接闪网组成屋面的接闪装置，和利用建筑物垂直支柱中的钢筋或钢结构件组成的引下线，以及接地装置等共同发挥作用，为建筑物防雷。
