On the morning of March 26th, at the Hukou Bridge in Xiaogan City, Hubei Province, a woman in white fell into the Huán River. In a critical moment, 63-year-old Wang Xiangcheng stepped forward without hesitation, jumping into the icy river from the bridge, which was about 12 meters above the water, to rescue her. With the assistance of firefighters, the woman was successfully rescued. Fortunately, the rescued individual is now out of danger.

Around 8 a.m. on March 26th, Wang Xiangcheng was returning home after a night shift when a young man approached him urgently, saying that a woman had fallen into the river and he couldn't swim.

Without hesitation, Wang Xiangcheng immediately turned back and looked down from the bridge. He saw a woman in white almost entirely submerged in the water, struggling desperately with only her head above the surface.

He then took off his jacket and shoes, climbed over the railing of the bridge, and without hesitation, jumped from the bridge, about 12 meters high, into the icy river, swimming towards the woman.

Due to heavy rainfall in the past few days, the river was turbulent, and Wang Xiangcheng struggled to grasp the down jacket of the woman from behind. Unfortunately, they were both swept further downstream by the river's current. Wang Xiangcheng continued to hold onto the woman, swimming desperately towards the shore.

"I loudly told the woman not to panic, otherwise, not only would I not be able to save her, but I would also be in danger myself." Wang Xiangcheng said. He felt his strength draining away, and he could hardly keep going. "If I were alone, swimming back would have been no problem, but since I finally grabbed her, I couldn't let go." Wang Xiangcheng said he never once thought of letting go throughout the entire ordeal.

At this point, firefighters, who had been alerted by the public, had arrived. They quickly entered the water, swam over, and put lifebuoys around them, helping both of them to safety. Medical personnel from the emergency services were also on-site, and after they were brought ashore, the woman was immediately placed on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

"I'm not sure how long we were in the water, probably about half an hour." Wang Xiangcheng said. After coming ashore, he realized that his down pants had fallen into the water. After changing into dry clothes, he still felt trembling with cold, his legs were weak, and he couldn't walk. His head also felt dizzy and heavy. Medical personnel from the emergency services saw Wang Xiangcheng's condition and also took him to the hospital.

At present, the woman who fell into the water has been out of danger, and Wang Xiangcheng has also been discharged from the hospital.

It was learned that Wang Xiangcheng is a retired soldier from Fuxing Village, Wolong Township, Xiaonan District, Xiaogan City, Hubei Province, and has been working as a security guard after retirement.

On the morning of March 27th, the Xiaogan City Veterans Affairs Bureau visited Wang Xiangcheng's home to express condolences, and learned in detail about his heroic rescue. They highly praised Wang Xiangcheng's heroic actions and expressed their highest respect to him.
