In the early hours of March 31st, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province was hit by strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to more than ten others.

Among the four unfortunate fatalities, three individuals were from the same building in the Fanghu Road Weimeng Clearwater Bay community in Nanchang County. One woman lived on the 11th floor, while another woman and her grandson resided on the 20th floor. All three individuals tragically fell from their homes after the windows were blown off by the strong winds. Currently, local authorities are actively addressing post-disaster safety hazards and conducting inspections.

At 1:45 a.m. on March 31st, the Nanchang Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow rainstorm warning signal, forecasting that precipitation in some areas of the city could exceed 50 millimeters in the next six hours, accompanied by short-term heavy rain, strong thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

According to Mr. Xu, who lives on the 20th floor of Building 3, Linfeng Xiangge, in the Weimeng Clearwater Bay community in Nanchang, at around three o'clock in the morning, strong winds blew away the windows of his living room and bedroom. His 64-year-old mother and 11-year-old son, along with the mattress, were blown downstairs and tragically killed.

Mr. Xu said that at the time, he and his wife were sleeping with their young daughter in the master bedroom, while his father slept alone, and his mother slept with their elder son. The loud noise woke him up, and he immediately checked on the safety of his family, only to find his mother and son missing from the room. The windows of the room were gone, leaving only a bed frame, and the mattress was also missing. Mr. Xu forced himself to remain calm, quickly arranged for his father, wife, and daughter, and dialed 110 to report the incident. After the strong wind outside subsided, he went downstairs to assess the situation and witnessed a heartbreaking scene.

Mr. Xu was not the only one to experience such a tragedy. Mr. Wan, who lived on the 11th floor of the same building, narrowly escaped because he slept separately from his partner. However, his 60-year-old partner tragically fell to her death.

On April 1st, property management staff responsible for the community explained that the incident was a natural disaster. They have been conducting inspections and clearing fallen tiles and debris.
