In March, the exit-entry frontier inspection station in Mohan on China's border with Laos cleared 2,100 in-bound visits by Thai nationals.
Among them, 629 visits were made through the Mohan port of China-Laos Railway, representing a month-on-month increase of 750%.
SOUNDBITE (Chinese): YAN XIANGHA, Tour guide, Yunnan International Travel Service
"Since the implementation of the visa-free policy between China and Thailand, the number of orders received by our travel agency from Thai tourists has significantly increased, with a year-on-year increase of over 60%. Currently, we are facing a shortage of tour guides proficient in the Thai language. (For Thai tourists traveling to China) this railway has been extremely popular."
The China-Laos Railway connects Kunming in China's Yunnan Province with the Lao capital Vientiane.
Many Thai travelers enter Laos at crossings on the Laos-Thailand border and continue their journey on the China-Laos Railway.
