Locals in North Duku village, West Sumatra, are risking their lives every day by crossing a rickety bridge that was damaged by flooding and landslides that occurred in March.

Footage from April 2 shows an elderly man carefully walking over the partially collapsed structure that crosses a river.

Locals still use the bridge as a lot of plantation land is across the river.

Tuesday 2 April 2024 - A resident looks careful when crossing a collapsed bridge in North Duku Village, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province.

The bridge collapsed as a result of the flood and landslide disaster that occurred on March 7 2024.

Even though the bridge is made of strong iron and is also a fairly new bridge built by the central government in Indonesia.

And the bridge is an important access for the local community because there is a lot of plantation land across the river.

Residents maintain these conditions so that their plantations remain well maintained and productive.
