A driver and two pupils were killed when a school van crashed into a truck in India.

Van driver Anas Ali, 24, was taking 11 students to take an entrance exam when their vehicle crashed into a stationary dump truck along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway near Ghaziabad on March 30 morning.

CCTV footage shows the van smashing into the truck, with the impact sending it spinning across the highway. It struck another truck that flipped over.

Police commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra said passers-by notified cops about the accident.

Police and medics arrived at the scene, where three people were killed. They were named by officers as the van driver Anas, and two pupils Unesh, 12, and Azam, 13.

The other injured passengers were rushed to different hospitals.

Vivek Chandra Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (rural), said: 'We are keeping track of the children under treatment. There have been no further casualties so far. The dumper driver was arrested and investigation is ongoing.'

Ravi Kumar Baliyan, station house officer of Crossings Republik police station, said the truck driver Saddam, 32, had allegedly parked near the road shoulder after he ran out of fuel.

A first information report has been lodged against him under Sections 279, 338, and 304A of the Indian Penal Code covering rash and negligent driving, causing grievous hurt by rash and negligent acts, and causing death by negligence.
