An Albert's Lyrebird was seen performing exotic mating dance in Australia.

Scientists documented the courtship behavior of the lyrebird, witnessing its mating ritual where it synchronized dance and song during breeding seasons from May 2018 to August 2019.

Researchers, led by Fiona Backhouse, a postdoctoral researcher with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, meticulously studied and quantitatively described the behavior among lyrebirds in the wild.

The courtship ritual begins with each male lyrebird perching on entangled vines. They perform a choreographed dance while gripping the vines with their feet, swaying and bouncing to the beat of their song.

The lyrebirds combine their movements with two distinct types of songs: the 'loud gronking' and the 'rhythmic gronking.'

Backhouse speculates on the purpose behind this elaborate display, suggesting that it may enhance the male's attractiveness to potential mates or create an illusion of nearby predators, enticing females to stay close for safety.
