Customs officials in German dismantled an illegal cannabis plantation with more than 100 plants.

Specialists from the Papenburg Customs Office and the Essen Customs Investigation Office were stunned upon discovering the plantation in the area of Weener on March 7.

At the scene, they seized around 100 cannabis plants, along with 1.2 kilogrammes (2.6 lbs) of ready-to-use cannabis and three kilogrammes (6.6 lbs) of dried cannabis flowers with a street value of around EUR 42,000.

The capture came after several officers noticed a cannabis-like smell coming from the property several days earlier. They then used heat sensors to confirm their suspicion.

The Aurich Public Prosecutor then issued a search warrant for the object.

During the search, two Dutchmen were reportedly found at the premises and criminal procedural measures were completed.

Main Customs Office Oldenburg spokesperson Frank Mauritz said in a statement: 'On average, a female cannabis plant produces around 50 grammes[0.1 lbs] of cannabis ready for sale.

'In this case, the fully flowered harvest of the94 plants seized could have produced almost five kilogrammes [11 lbs] of cannabis with a street value of around EUR 50,000 [GBP 42,749].'

Further investigations are underway.
