British DJs arrested for 'working illegally in Thailand'
Two British DJs were arrested for allegedly working in Thailand illegally.
Karen Siobhan Willard, or 'Miss Melody', 37, from Hastings, and Gareth Franklin Greenway, or 'DJ Saxxon', 45, from Norfolk, were detained at the Go To Party Hostel and Sea Breeze Bar in Krabi province on March 30.
Police raided the blacklight-illuminated club, where several foreign tourists were seen partying to loud music.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Witsawa Saneha of the Krabi Provincial Police said the Karen and Gareth were held on charges of working in the country without a permit.
Cops also arrested the Thai bar owner Warinthorn Tanpitijirakorn, 52, who was unable to produce the pair's work permits or any documents allowing him to operate the nightlife business.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Witsawa said: 'The Thai woman was charged with employing foreigners without permits, and running an unauthorised entertainment venue.'
The three were taken to the Ao Nang Police Station for further questioning.
Miss Melody is a singer, host, and MC who has played gigs across the UK and Europe. She has been featured on Apple playlists, Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, and BBC Music Introducing.
Meanwhile, DJ Saxxon is a drum and bass producer.
Their arrests come amid a wider crackdown on misbehaving foreigners in Thailand following outrage over the case of a Swiss man who kicked a Thai woman for sitting on his beachfront garden steps in Phuket.
Urs Beat Fehr, 45, now faces having his visa revoked as he was deemed a 'threat to social peace'.
