A motorist's dashcam captured the moment a tornado flipped over a vehicle in Utica, Indiana.

The harrowing footage shows traffic lights violently shaking in the strong winds battering the area on April 2.

As the motorist reached another crossing, the winds picked up seeing traffic lights being ripped from the cables. Several cones and barriers were blown across the road too.

"I was travelling through Utica when I noticed debris flying throughout the air in a circular motion. I attempted to go around traffic in order to make a left-hand turn and speed out of the path of the oncoming tornado," Ethan Williams said.

"I was not successful in doing so and found myself caught in the midst of a tornado," they added.

Towards the end of the clip, a car can be seen flipped over on the road,

"Footage shows the moment my truck was spun 90 degrees and it shows the aftermath of a car being completely inverted.

"They (people inside the upside-down car) were okay, shaken but all three occupants got out and were okay," Williams added.
