A teenager was hospitalised for a suspected brain infection after popping a massive pimple on his nose.

Justine Seit, 17, had popped the huge zit sitting on his nose, but soon fell ill with an infection in Negros Oriental province, the Philippines.

Burning up with a fever, the lad was rushed to a hospital on March 30. He was placed on oxygen as doctors conducted a CT scan to determine if the infection had spread to his brain.

Justine's condition improved after being prescribed antibiotics and having the pus drained from the boil-like pimple.

His relieved mum Monaliza Marcos said: 'To everyone, especially the teenagers, my advice is not to fiddle with pimples on your face because the infection might spread to your brain.

'The doctors have taken a sample from the pimple for analysis.

'I'm so grateful my son was able to recover from his sickness.'

Doctors have warned against popping pimples in the 'danger triangle' area of the face.

The region, also called the 'triangle of death', is marked by the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose.

The network of veins in this area provide channels through which facial infections can spread toward the brain.
